myopia control options

What is Myopia?

What are its implications?

Myopia (or short-sightedness) is not simply a refractive condition requiring spectacles- rather it is an abnormal eye which is longer than it should be.
The higher the level of myopia, the more at risk of that eye developing eye conditions such as maculopathy, glaucoma, retinal detachment and cataract which may result in uncorrectable sight loss in the future - i.e. vision that can not be fixed by stronger glasses.

What can we do to prevent its progression?

Early intervention is best. Thankfully in this modern era there are a number of options available in the market which includes wearing glasses with specialty lenses, contact lenses with special designs, eye drops and even a combination of these options.

At Eyetech Optometrists, we manage many young myopes and prescribe all forms of treatment to slow or halt its progression. We are equipped with state of the art instrumentation that can accurately measure your child’s eyes.
